COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES
FRIENDSWOOD LIBRARY
January 17, 2007


Welcome and Introduction:  Carla called the meeting to order at 7:02 pm.  Those present:  Carla, Denise, Mark, Gregg, Dorothea, John, Karen, Randy, Kathleen, Michele, Henry, SPL, and John Y.
Previous Minutes:  No changes noted to the minutes.  Mark motioned to approve the minutes, Gregg seconded.  Committee approved the minutes as posted.
Treasury Report:  Denise stated the account balance as $7104.47.   This includes $1200 from brisket sales and $190 from registration, making the actual balance around $5800.
Roundtable:  Derrick Wesley is the new district executive.  He will be at the Court of Honor on January 29 for Friends of Scouting presentation.
OA asked for a date sometime in January-March to visit the Troop for an OA presentation.  Committee decided on March 5.  Michele will let OA know.
District handed out the access codes for Recharter and advancement reports.  Michele gave Carla the Recharter packet.
Redbook:  Kathleen believes all updates are complete but it still needs to be formatted.  She noted that each Scout would receive a new Redbook.  Kathleen will send out the updated version to Committee members via email for each member to evaluate and submit comments.  It was recommended that comments be sent back for all to view.
Kathleen also noted that some of the sites on the web page no longer function.  Mark said to let him know which ones they are and he will correct them.
Equipment:  Mark stated the garage door opener is installed.  The Pack paid for half of the installation allowing them access to garage as well.  He suggested adding a lock to the gate in the fence.  Committee agreed.
Gregg stated he would start building the storage unit for Troop equipment now that he had garage access.
Fundraiser:  Brisket sales- John stated the Troop sold 49 briskets but if people still wanted to order they could.  Cooking starts January 19 at 7 pm- need help preparing briskets.  Briskets will be removed at noon on January 20.  If anyone wants their briskets prior to freezing, come by the Lighthouse cooking facility on January 21.  Final pick up date for frozen briskets is January 27.
Flag subscriptions- Mark requested a day to sell and a day to build flags.  Committee set April 14 for sales and May 5 for flag building.
Camping/Activities:  Pinewood Derby - January 27-service opportunity for Scouts. Mark stated several Scouts signed up to help.  A vehicle will transport those camping that weekend to the Pinewood Derby and back.
K of C campout- January 26-28- Kathleen asked if the Scouts were doing a service project for the K of C.  No project planned.  Money for food for the campout will be collected at the January 22 Troop meeting.  Scouts will work on campfire skills, lashings, and camp setup.
Court of Honor- January 29- PLC will work out ceremony.
Citizenship of the Community- taught at the Troop meetings in February.  Carla stated she would teach the merit badge and asked Karen if she would like to help.  Denise volunteered to assist as well.  It was noted the requirements for the merit badge have changed greatly since the last time it was taught in the Troop. Visit to city council tentatively scheduled for February 5.
Scout Sunday- February 10 at 5:30 pm mass- Randy will check with the Pack to see if any have earned religious emblems.  He will also see if they would like to participate in Scout Sunday.  Randy and John Y. volunteered to be readers.  Randy will see if the Scouts can usher and do collections.
No campout scheduled for February.
Blue and Gold Banquet- February 17- service opportunity for Scouts.
Will K.'s Eagle Ceremony- February 17
Lexington- scheduled activity for March.  Kathleen stated they require reservations 60 days in advance with a deposit of $50 and a minimum of 15 persons.  Committee decided to cancel these plans.
Fishing merit badge- changed from April to March troop meetings
Fishing campout- March 30- April 1- Quintana County Park
First aid merit badge- April troop meetings
Camporee- April 27-29
Canoe trip- May 11-13- Kathleen has not received a response from the park yet.
SPL Report:  SPL noted the Scouts are not following directions.  Henry suggested SPL take one meeting to remind Patrol leaders to keep Patrols in line.  Discussion ensued as to ways to get and keep the Scouts' attention.  It was also suggested that the adults line up behind the Scouts during announcements so they can hear them as well.
SPL stated a need to work on audience attention also.  He noted several adults sitting thru the flag ceremony.  Committee agreed that the adults needed to set a better example for the Scouts.
Other:  Kathleen received a refund check.  She has another Troop member requesting one as well.  Mark stated he talked to the camp and they will send the other refund check.  Check given to Denise to distribute refund to appropriate party.
Kathleen stated she sent in the confirmation fee for Summer Camp.  She received a confirmation letter but did not initially notice that they also require a reconfirmation fee of $100 due January 15.  She will contact the person to verify that the Troop still has reservations. 
Adjournment:  Carla stated she would not be at the next meeting.  Randy volunteered to be facilitator.  The next meeting is February 21 at Friendswood Library.  The meeting adjourned at 8:48 pm.
