February 18, 2004

Call to order: Meeting was called to order by Robbie McAfoos.

Approval of Minutes: Minutes from January 2004 were approved.

Reports:

·         Scoutmaster:  Alan Valicek reported on the Blue and Gold Banquet.  Mark Manusov was voted Cubmaster of the Year, and Steve Waldner was elected Scoutmaster of the year. Congratulations to both!

Troop meeting for Monday, Feb 23, 2004 will be designated for Order of the Arrow elections. Alan has made a list of scouts who are eligible and ballots will be available. Tristan Harris will assist in coordinating the elections. Kathleen stated she will send an email to notify everyone.

Troop elections will be held the last meeting of March 2004.

·         Treasurer: Troop balance is 4180.44.

·         Training: Woodbage training is still on, dates for two consecutive weekends, The Woodbadge Course will be held on two extended (three-day) weekends:
March 5-7 and March 26-28, 2004 at Camp Karankawa.

·         Fundraising: Mark Manusov reported plans are continuing for the Flag Fundraising project. Mark plans on starting subscription sales on Sat. April 3, 2004. It is anticipated the project will be ready for trail for Memorial Day. Mark will post more information as available by email.

Dorthea Steele reported Isaac thinks he can sell about 450 First Aid kits to his Dad's   company, but the kit will have to include tweezers, scissors and a custom label.  Owner, HR director and Corp safety director thinks it is a good idea.  Kits will have to be approved by a project manager, district VP, district Safety manager and Corporate Safety Manager for each project.  Next two projects will require delivery about mid May. The committee agreed to appropriate funds for this project and the troop will assist Isaac in preparation of the kits.

The committee discussed other fundraising projects that have been done in the past such as a car wash.

·         Equipment: Dorthea Steele reported Greg has placed couplers on the lantern trees that will allow easier attachment and removal of lanterns, and prevent some of the damage and breakage of the lanterns.

·         Database: John Y’Barbo stated there is an update to Troop Master, Troop Net and requested to purchase the software for a small fee. The committee agreed to allot funds for this update, which will assist in keeping accurate records.

John stated he is working with Lisa Newton on troop dues, which must be in the Council office by the end of the month.  Dues are $50.00 per scout, per year, and may be paid in full, or $25.00 now, and $25.00 later in the year. (This does not include Cub Scouts who are crossing over from Mary Queen, as they will register as a pack.) In the past, the troop has paid dues for scouts who were the master list, but not active, and this is money lost for the scouts.  The Committee voted that scouts that have not paid dues by the due date will be changed to inactive status. Once removed from the active roster, they will not be able to receive advancements until they fill out a new Boy Scout registration form and it is submitted and entered at Council. All past rank, service hours, and participation hours will remain in the Troop database, however in an inactive status. John stated he would send an email out. If the dues are a financial hardship for any scout or their parent, the scout or parent should contact the Committee Chair Robbie McAfoos or Scoutmaster Alan Valicek. No scout should be prevented from registration with the troop due to financial constraints.

·         Crossover: Mark Manusov announced Crossover is scheduled for Sunday, March 7, 2004 at 4:30 pm at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Ray Ochoa will conduct the ceremony. The troop is expecting 16-17 scouts. Steve Waldner suggested at least 3 scouts from the troop be present for assistance.
