TROOP 452 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES

March 23 2004

Call to order: Meeting was called to order by Robbie McAfoos.

Approval of Minutes: Minutes from February 2004 were approved.

Reports:

·         Scoutmaster:  Alan Valicek reported troop elections will be held at the troop meeting on March 29, 2004

JTLC camp, will be held June 6-12, 2004. The committee voted to use troop funds to send the SPL and ASPL to camp, if they wanted to go. The committee agreed it would be a good investment for the future leadership of the troop.

·         Treasurer: psam ordener sent an email to the troop describing all deposits and checks. New balance is $1, 654.

·         Training: Woodbage training is in progress. One more weekend left for Alan Valicek and Henry Valdez. at Camp Karankawa.

·         Fundraising: Mark Manusov reported plans are continuing for the American Flag Fundraising project. Mark plans on starting subscription sales on Sat. April 3, 2004. It is anticipated the project will be ready for trial for Memorial Day. Mark will post more information as available by email.

Henry Valdez presented a very detailed plan on the planned monetary return for the selling of the flag subscriptions. For 300 subscriptions, each scout would earn $2.00, or $30.00 per year. Scout would have to post flag, and take down flag for that holiday only. Sign up would be for each holiday flags were posted. The first year, money earned would pay back troop funds for purchase of the flags, but profits are expected to double for next year.

Bill Kibikas reported he has supplies for building 450 First Aid boxes for Greg Steele’s company. The kit has a larger box, and has added tweezers and scissors. New labels will need to be printed. He has rewritten the assembly procedure, which was approved by Greg. Bill stated the troop still has 120 of the smaller kits in inventory, which need to be sold. Assembly of the 450 First Aid Kits for Greg’s company is also scheduled for Sat, April 3.

A lengthy discussion followed regarding fund raising and service hours. Alan mentioned troop meeting time is being used for First Aid Kit production. It was decided this could be done out of troop meetings, and the scouts could earn service hours for this. Will Kibikas suggested a separate troop bank account be started to keep fundraising monies and camp accounts separate. This was tabled for further discussion. The committee decided since troop monies had been spent for supplies for Greg Steele’s companies First Aid Kit, money from those kits would go back to troop account for equipment and other troop needs. The committee will decide at a later time, a method for allotting money to the scouts to their camp accounts from future fund raising, such as selling the troops smaller First Aid kits, or participating in the Flag project.

·         Equipment: Kathleen Meyers wanted to remind everyone, to be careful with cots in the tents. The legs on cots can tear the floor of a tent. It was suggested scouts be careful and lift cots to move them, rather than pulling them, especially if the cots have backpacks, etc on them.

·         Eagle Project: Jacob Newton presented his Eagle Badge project to the committee. He plans on distributing EMS files to an assisted living facility near his church. Plans are to leave the file on the doorknob of the resident. It was suggested extra time be planned for if the residents want to talk or have questions about the kits. The committee agreed the project was a good one, and approval was given. Jacob will let the troop know what day is planned for distribution.
