COMMITTEE
MEETING MINUTES
Committee Chair's Home
March 8, 2006
Welcome and Introduction: Carla called the meeting to order at
7:10pm. Those present: Carla, John, Mark, Dorothea, Denise, SPL,
and Ron Harris (briefly)
Previous Committee Minutes: No changes noted to the minutes. Denise
motioned the minutes be approved as posted, John seconded the motion.
Committee approved the minutes as posted.
Treasury Report: A check for $3000 from STARCON for first aid kits given
to Denise at the meeting.
Denise stated 38 Scouts and 19 adults have paid for Recharter totaling
$1094. She noted the Budget Committee had estimated the Troop would
receive $1500 from Recharter but she feels that number will be short $800-900.
Committee decided if a Scout or adult has not paid the membership dues when the
Recharter goes to Council, the name will be removed from the Charter list
unless prior arrangements with the Troop are made.
Eagle Projects: none presented. Ron explained to Committee that a
Scout must have his project and required merit badges completed as well as a
Scoutmaster conference prior to his 18th birthday. The Board of Review
can be done after the 18th birthday within a 6-week period; after that, letters
explaining the delay are required.
Roundtable Report: no report, Roundtable on March 9. Michelle
Barringer will start attending Roundtable as the Troop's representative.
Service Projects: On March 4, three service projects were done:
Scouts helped lead Pledge of Allegiance at Memorial Service, stayed to listen
to speakers; pine needle cleanup at the Knights of Columbus- 60 bags taken to
Wedgewood habitat; Eagle project at the Knights of Columbus- borders laid, some
trees removed, plastic laid, places marked for oleanders, and mulch spread.
March 10- help with fish fry at Mary Queen Church; Scouts need to be there
before 5:30pm wearing Class A uniform; Troop will receive a donation from the
Knights of Columbus for participation
March 19- help Ladies Society with donuts at Mary Queen
SPL Report: Air Show for completion of aviation merit badge is April 29
in Galveston. John noted that is the Saturday of brisket delivery.
John stated Major Wankowski wanted to do a presentation on drugs to the
Troop. A date of March 27 was set for the presentation.
Troop elections are March 20. Scouts are to come in Class A to give a
speech to the Troop for the position into which they want to be elected.
Advancements: no report
Fundraising: Denise stated she would distribute brisket sales tickets and
instructions to the Scouts on March 27. Tickets and money will be due
back on April 17th. Price will be $35 per brisket. Briskets will weigh
9-10 lbs. Brisket distribution will be April 29th between 1pm and 3pm.
John noted that the week before April 29th, the K of C will be cooking for the
car show and could cook some of the briskets for the Troop at that time.
Committee recommended checking with Randy to see if the Troop could set up a
table at Mary Queen for pre-selling the briskets.
Camping: Mark said Kathleen wanted to know what food to plan for the trip
to Buffalo Trails- will need breakfast and lunch when the Troop arrives at the
park before check-in at Buffalo Trails. Committee suggested cereal, milk,
fruit, and pop tarts for breakfast; bread, lunchmeat, and condiments for
lunch. The Troop will stop for lunch and dinner on the way home.
The Scouts and adults are to bring money to pay for these meals.
Committee recommended the monies be collected from the Scouts at the beginning
of the trip to ensure the Scouts have money to pay for the meals. Mark
reminded everyone that merit badge selection (and second choices) need to be
sent to Kathleen.
March 24-26: Goliad campout; reenactment on Sunday
April 21-23: Camporee; Troop not participating this year; Scouts wanting
to go can do so on an individual basis
April 22-23: Copano Bay fishing trip; will work on fishing merit badge
Equipment: Flags cleaned; new numbers sewn on in place of taped
numbers. Flagpole used in indoor flag ceremony needs cleaned- has dried
mud on it. Eagle finial replaced on flagpole.
Calendar: Mark stated he needed to schedule another day for flag
subscription sales. He thought a weekday might be better than a weekend-
more people home. The date of April 17th from 7pm-8:30pm was set for flag
subscription sales.
I. Steele's Eagle ceremony scheduled for April 20th 7-8pm.
L. Schilter's Eagle ceremony scheduled for May 14th.
Other: Carla asked Mark if he needed any help with the website- some
items out of date. Mark stated anyone can send him pictures or Troop info
and he will post it on the site.
The Eagle plaque needs updated. Mark stated he is trying to get names and
dates of Scouts who made Eagle but Council doesn't have a list. Dorothea
suggested contacting BSA in Irving, TX since that is where the Eagle
certificate is generated.
Denise asked about Sea Base Camp. She thought it would be a good idea for
next year. She stated she would check into the details.
Adjournment: The next meeting is scheduled for April 19th tentatively at
the library. Mark motioned for adjournment; John seconded the
motion. The meeting adjourned at 8:27pm.
