May 19, 2004

Call to order: Meeting was called to order by Robbie McAfoos.

Approval of Minutes: Minutes from March 2004 were approved

Eagle Projects:

Brian Pierson presented his proposed Eagle project to the Committee. His plan is to clean up and renovate the Liberty Tree Monument site in Friendswood. It was suggested Brian refine his list of supplies with quantities needed and list cost of supplies.

Lenny Schilter presented his proposed Eagle project to the Committee. His plan is to work on the visiting priest’s home owned by Mary Queen. There is a lot of repair work needed to the outside fencing, walkway and garage. It was suggested Lenny limit his project to one area needing repair.

Treasury Report:

psam ordener submitted a register report on troop funds. Balance to date is $5425.23.

Advancements:

Karen Frank will have a printout of partial completions for merit badges for each scout for the next troop meeting. The scouts can work on completing these badges during the summer if they choose. Karen requested each scout review the partial list and contact her if there are discrepancies.

It was also clarified that on obtaining the rank of Tenderfoot, the scout is awarded the troop’s neckerchief and slide at the Court of Honor.

The Committee agreed “blue cards” should be filled out and updated for Merit Badge classes presented during troop meetings to keep an accurate record of each scout’s requirements they have completed.

Training:

John Monnat reported that Ron Harris will present Youth Protection Training for adults and scouts at the next troop meeting on May 24, 2004.

Dorthea Steele reported she will begin instruction for the Catholic religious medal, Ad Altare Dei. A mandatory campout will be held the first weekend in October 2004 for the candidates, so troop campouts should be scheduled around this. An AAD meeting is planned for Sunday, May 23, 2004 1900h at Janel Yarberry’s house. Robbie offered access to the troop’s calendar to Dorthea so she could add class time and the camping trip.

Equipment:

Greg Steele reported he has installed back LED lights on the trailer, and has purchased extra stakes for the tents.

Scoutmaster:

Alan Valicek reported Brendan Crouch and Philip Leopold will attend the Junior Leadership Training at Camp Karankawa June 6-12, 2004.

Alan would like to have at least two troop meetings a month during the summer. Robbie stated he would check with Charlene at the church for meeting room availability.

Alan stated he wants to have a PLC meeting during June, to begin planning the next year’s activities, troop meeting agendas, and locations for campouts. Adults will provide support and advice, but the scouts need to plan the calendar. It was suggested the committee come up with ideas and suggestions, and bring them to the next committee meeting Wed. June 16, 2004. A PLC meeting will be held the next week June 23, 2004 at the Knights of Columbus Hall, to work on the calendar for the next year.

Alan reported a Court of Honor would be held during the Village Creek Canoe trip Sat. May 22, 2004.

The Troop has many scouts working on many ranks at the same time. The Committee agreed that the Asst Scoutmasters may sign off on rank advancements in an effort to assist the Scoutmaster.
