TROOP 452

MINUTES

8/18/04

Call to order: Meeting was called to order by John Monnat in the absence of Robbie McAfoos, Committee Chair.

Approval of Minutes: Minutes from July 2004 were approved.

Treasury Report: psam ordener submitted a register report on troop funds. Balance to date is $5473.04

Advancements: Karen Frank suggested rank advanced be presented to the scout after opening ceremony, on first troop meeting of the month, which is the Class A troop meeting. A Board of Review is held at any troop meeting. With this method, the scout would not have to wait until a Court of Honor to receive his new rank patch. The scout will be recognized again at the Court of Honor, and his parent will be presented the parent pin. Merit badges earned will continue to be presented at Court of Honor. Committee voted to approve this action. Karen reported she has noticed Troop Master is not up to date with the scouts rank advancements, camping hours, service hours, etc. It makes it difficult when a Board of Review is requested, and she does not have accurate information.  Mark Manusov stated he is working on an update to Troop Master, and will determine access so updates can be posted in a timely manner, and the scout’s information will be current.

Training: John Monnat reported on the recent Committee member training. Copies of the training packet are available at the scout shop.

Equipment: Committee has approved funds for an adjustable hitch for the trailer. The hitch has not been purchased yet.

Fundraising: Plans are for the troop to assist the Knights of Columbus at the Air Show, Sat. Oct 23, 2004. More info to come.

Membership: Lisa Newton will no longer be able to assist with membership. Dues will need to be collected in September, for those scouts choosing to pay every six months.  psam ordener offered to take Lisa Newton’s membership position.

Roundtable: There are still reports of some troop website users unable to view the troop calendar. Mark Manusov has posted instructions in a troop email. Please contact him if you continue to have problems. It was mentioned the troop’s display board in the hall needs to be updated. John Y’Barbo has a key. Alan will check on a duplicate key so the board can be updated. Charlene and Father Skip have requested calendars for troop meetings, so the room reservations can be made, and Father Skip can keep updated on troop activities. Randy Waibel stated he would provide the calendars.

Service Projects: John Monnat reminded everyone, service hours are available at Mary Queen, the third Sunday of every month. The Women’s Council serves donuts from 7 am to 11 am in the hall. Scouts in Class A may work all or part of the morning for service hours. Kathleen Meyers stated an adult had asked if time worked assisting another church of choice, counts as service hours. Alan Valicek stated the troops first priority is our Chartered Organization, but any time spent working with the community or a church may be counted toward service hours. Many scouts have performed Eagle Projects for their church of choice.

Scoutmaster: Alan Valicek reported upcoming events from District Roundtable. Order of the Arrow Ordeal and Brotherhood scheduled for Aug. 20-22, 2004 at Camp Karankawa, Fall and Winter Camp at Camp K. More info will be available about Fall and Winter Camps in upcoming troop meetings and on the troop’s website.

Alan presented a troop meeting plan to the Committee. He mentioned each troop has a Asst Scout Master, and he would like each Scout Master to arrive 15 minutes prior to each troop meeting for agenda items and planning. He asked for Asst. Scoutmaster assistance to ensure participation and interest for all scouts in troop meetings.

Calendar: Many upcoming events. Please consult troop’s website calendar for new listings, changes and updates.
