COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES
Mary Queen Church Room 118

September 14th, 2009

 


Welcome and Introduction:  Carla called the meeting to order at 7:10pm.   Those present include Carla, Tim, Amy, Mark M, Mark K, Rudy, Jim, Samuel, Karen, Denise, Paul, David.

 

Previous Minutes:  There were no changes to the minutes and they were approved by the Committee.

Treasury Report:  Report given by Denise.  The total in the account is $10,857.33 including $2,118.68 in the Scout Accounts.  Last large expense was $420 for T-shirts as reported from the last meeting.  Propane tanks were filled and there were several other minor expenses. 

There is still no one to take over the T-shirt sales.  The treasury report was approved by the Committee.

The Senior Patrol Leader reported that the troop had started the Water Sports Merit Badge and it was going well.   The Committee wanted to give special recognition to the Johnson’s for the use of their house and boat for this merit badge.   Also the troop started a clean up of the road next to the church.  The troop will be alternating months with the Cub Scouts.  Also the troop started the Personal Fitness merit badge during the last meeting. 

Calendar: Mark stated that the fishing trip was rescheduled due to bad weather.

Sep 21st – Court of Honor.

          Video of Water Sports merit badge will be shown

          and of course the Court of Honor

          There are only 2 rank advancements and one Eagle Palm being awarded at the Court of Honor.  In light of this Mark is going to decide if all the ranks will be read as usual.

Sep 25-27th Fishing trip – the camping fees are very small for this trip.  Normally the boys pay $10 for food and $10 for camping.  It was decided to keep the $10 for camping and use it to pay for bait and the pole fee.

Sep 28 Elections will be held.  Mark will not be attending this meeting.  David said he would handle the elections.  

Oct 3rd Scout Master training.  Julie Hamala expressed interest in the training.  There is an outdoor training session but the date was unknown.   

Oct 10th This was the original date for curb painting but Tim had a conflict.  It has not been placed back on the calendar.  It will be discussed at the next meeting.

October 16-18:  horseback riding at Lake Livingston
October 19:  Troop meeting; pioneering merit badge
October 26:  Troop meeting; pioneering merit badge
October 24:  Halloween Carnival.  This is a date change.  Amy will ask the church what the Scouts will be doing at the Carnival

November 2:  Troop meeting
November 7:  flag retirement ceremony in the afternoon or late evening; the Johnsons volunteered their home. Rudy contacted the Friendswood school TV station to cover the ceremony.  He will also contact the newspapers.  He thought it would be nice to connect the 100-year anniversary of Scouting to the ceremony.
November 9:  Troop meeting

November 11th. Veterans Day.  Troop will be posting Flags.

November 14th.  Shooting Club on FM 528.  Adult and scout shooting class.  The Scout needs a release form signed by a parent and adult supervision at the shooting club.  Rudy said the Shooting Club meets all the requirements of the BSA for guns.

November 16:  Troop meeting; preparation for Fall Camp
November 20-24:  Fall Camp at Camp K; David will collect money.  Sam and Rudy expressed interest in going.

November 30:  Troop meeting

December 7th. Troop meeting – Pearland Skating Rink

December 14th Troop meeting

There will be no meeting on the 21st or 28th of December.

The troop will be going to Lexington in January. 

 

Adult Leaders:  Sam volunteered to be Committee Secretary and Amy volunteered to be the Round Table and OA representative.  Positions still to be filled are Advancement, Committee Chair, and Training Coordinator. 
Mark will add Amy to the troop email list. 

 

Advancement:  A problem occurred with Troop Master and several boys do not have their ranks listed.  Karen will check the old database and compare.  The new version of Troop Master is available at TroopMaster.com.  Some discussion was held on if the software could be run from a thumb drive. 

 

Quartermaster: The tents are becoming old and worn and it is getting difficult to repair them.  The Troop has 14 tents and two are probably useless and will be used for spare parts. 

 

The next meeting will be held on October 20th at 7:00pm at a location to be announced later.  Carla adjourned the meeting at 8:35pm.
