Minutes Troop 452 Committee Meeting – 10/25/06

Carla called the meeting to order and the minutes of the last meeting were approved as submitted. Present were Mark Manusov, Carla Tibbitts, Henry Valdez, Mark Tibbitts, and Randy Waibel.

There was no treasurer’s report.

Kyle Lee made a follow-up presentation for his Eagle Project to the committee in answer to their previous questions. His project will be to dig the holes (5 gallon size) for, plant, and water 33 Indian Hawthorne plants at the new Pearland Lion’s Club. 17 more will be planted if time permits. His Project Workbook was submitted to the committee and approved and signed by Carla Tibbitts and Henry Valdez. The project will be done 1/27/2007. Kyle was instructed to talk to Don Bennett individually or at a meeting.

Ian Reynolds made a presentation for his Eagle Project to the committee. Ian will find volunteers to write letters and mail care packages to wounded US Service Personnel in hospital in San Antonio. He will make one initial trip to set up shipment receipt. Some deliveries may be made at that time. Thereafter, Ian will collect letters and packages from the volunteers and ship them to San Antonio. Monthly shipments of at least letters are desired. 40 volunteers will be solicited through Ian’s school service organization and Ian will check with them regularly to see that they are at least writing letters. The committee instructed Ian start a log of time he and others spend on the project, take pictures of the collection of letters and packages, to make a list of recommended and forbidden items for the packages, and to write a guideline letter for the volunteers.

There was no SPL report.

Halloween in the Park will be 10/26 (re-scheduled to 10/30 due to rain) and the Troop will start work at 7:00 PM. 10 scouts are needed. The Mary, Queen Halloween Carnival will be 10/28 starting at 5:30 PM and 5 scouts are needed.

The earliest possibility for the troop to go to the CIMA Pack & Paddle will be 6/10/07. We need a commitment very soon to reserve 10 spots.

Mark Manusov proposed that the for future flag subscription sales (to start after Veterans Day 11/11), excess flag maintenance funds (up to $75) will be given to the scout(s) having the most flag sales. Renewals will count the same as new sales. A motion was made, seconded, and approved by the committee to use up to $75 from the excess flag maintenance funds to reward the scout having the most flag subscription sales for 2007.

Mark Manusov proposed that a garage door opener be purchased for installation on the door for Troop 452 equipment at the Mary, Queen garage. The opener would be coded for Troop entry only. This eliminates the need to go the Mary, Queen office to get a key and has been approved by Father Skip. A motion was made, seconded, and approved by the committee to approve up to $250 for a garage door opener and other required hardware for installation at the Mary, Queen garage. Mark Tibbitts volunteered to help with the installation.

Carla Tibbitts reviewed adult training information and opportunities that were presented at the District Roundtable. See the council website for times and training available.

A motion was made, seconded, and approved by the committee to adjourn the meeting.
