COMMITTEE
MEETING MINUTES
FRIENDSWOOD LIBRARY
October 17, 2007
Welcome and Introduction: Mark led the meeting in Carla's absence.
He called the meeting to order at 7:12 pm. Those present: Mark, Gregg,
Dorothea, Denise, Karen, Michele, and SPL
Minutes: No changes noted to the minutes. Committee approved the
minutes as posted.
Treasury Report: Denise and Mark discussed the eligibility and
registration of Scouts on camping trips. Mark gave Denise checks for
Scouts going camping this weekend.
Denise stated the Troop account is at $6928.20.
She received a $1096 refund from Summer Camp. Denise stated she is
calling the camp tomorrow to find out what Scouts attended and who
overpaid. Mark asked her to check on the Pack and Paddle patches from
Summer Camp.
Denise noted it was time to renew subscription to the web calendar at a cost of
$59.95. Committee approved the renewal.
Karen motioned for the treasury report approved as submitted; Gregg seconded
the motion. Committee approved the report.
Fundraising: Mark stated David suggested a potential fundraiser for the
Troop. His company uses a flexible metal with colors on them. The Troop
could make these. It would be a profitable fundraiser for the
Scouts. The problem is the company will only pay for the item by credit
card and the Troop does not have that capability. Committee considered
Pay Pal. Denise was concerned about Pay Pal's rules: responsible
for fraudulent charges, 2% charge for usage. Committee suggested possibly
going through Council.
Popcorn sales this month- due at the end of the month. Mark thought Julie
would hand out information at the next Troop meeting.
Meetings/Activities: USA 10 miler- 6 Scouts helped at the event.
Denise and Mark noted it was "well run". Mark stated he did not
know they had food available at the finish line. He plans on the Troop
participating in this event next year.
Oct. 19-21- Brazos Bend campout; Mark asked if the Troop owed money for the
campout, Denise stated she had not written a check to Brazos Bend
Oct. 22- Troop meeting at Main Event; cost $9-10/person, video games extra
Oct. 27- Mary Queen Halloween party; Mark was unsure of the time and if the
Scouts are to serve drinks again this year
Oct. 29- Troop meeting; speeches for elections
Nov. 12- meeting changed to Nov. 5, uncertain if the Church would be open on
the 12th; new leader induction and fall camp preparation
Nov. 16-20- Fall Camp at Camp K
Dec. 3- White Elephant gift exchange
Dec. 10- practice carols
Dec. 17- caroling at a nursing home, need someone to contact nursing home
Dec. 26-31- Winter Camp at Camp K
Summer Camp: Mark stated the cost of camp is $320/person. Committee
concerned about Scouts cancelling after signing up to go. Discussion
ensued as to how to resolve the issue. Karen motioned that any person
signing up for Summer Camp must pay the full amount. If unable to make
the trip, that person must find someone to take his place and receive his
reimbursement from the person taking his place on the trip. If a person is
unable to make the trip and cannot find someone to replace him, he is still
responsible for the entire camp fee. The Troop will not reimburse any money for
this Summer Camp. Denise seconded the motion. Committee approved
the motion.
SPL Report: SPL noted the Troop did not have a place to meet in the
Church at the last Troop meeting. They met in the garage at the
Church. He noted, "everything's going good". Scouts are
well behaved at the meeting- able to get the business of the meeting done
faster so they can play games.
Roundtable: Michele gave Karen the papers from Merit Badge Academy.
NYLT- trying to get more Troops to participate by limiting number of
Scouts/Troop attending. Michele stated they need Mark's email address so
they could send him information.
Other: Michele noted that new medical forms need filled out every
year. Committee suggested it be done at the same time as Recharter.
Mark noted the Troop needs to find a place to meet. On Monday, another
group occupied the rooms the Troop had designated on the calendar and the Troop
had to find another place to meet. Denise will check with the City of
Friendswood concerning the Senior Activity Center to see if they can meet
there.
Garage agreement: Randy not present to discuss this
Adjournment: The next meeting is scheduled for November 28 with no
meeting in December. The meeting adjourned at 8:20 pm.
