TROOP 452 COMMITTEE MEETING
November 15, 2003
Call to order: Meeting was called to order by the Chairman, Robbie McAfoos. Members were welcomed.
Approval of Minutes: No minutes were approved for October, because there were no minutes to approve.
Eagle Project: Matt Newton presented his proposed Eagle Project. He plans to assist with the renovation of the playground of his church, Friendswood Friends Church. Committee approved the project. Date to be announced.
Reports:
· Committee Chair: Robbie again offered training for the Woodbadge. Alan Valicek has agreed to attend. One more volunteer is needed. The troop has set funds aside for the training. Training will be held March 4-7 and April 1-4, 2004 at Camp K.
· Scoutmaster: Alan reported he had attended the Merit Badge Training sponsored by the District. Once a scout begins a Merit Badge, there is no deadline for completion. If a scout wants to work on a Merit Badge, and his parent is the only counselor for that badge, the parent must open up the work on the badge to other scouts. This ensures the parent will not sign off on his/her son only for the badge.
Alan stated they were unable to complete the Pioneering Merit badge at the KC campout due to weather. He plans to offer completion on the campout in February before Scout Sunday, at the church. The scouts need to build the Monkey Bridge. Alan needs a place to store all the poles that are taking up space in the trailer. Robbie will try to find out if the storage building by the trailer is available.
Alan has the patches from Bear Creek summer camp. He will bring them in when he remembers.
·
Treasurer:
psalm ordener reported account balance of $5576.80, with $517.60 in camp
accounts. psam asked where the PA system was. It was missed at the Court of
Honor Ceremony. Robbie stated he would ask around.
·
Advancement
Coordinator: Karen Frank reminded the committee, next troop meeting would
be held at City Hall, for continued work on requirements for the Citizenship in
the Community merit badge. Scouts should report to City Hall, Monday, November
17, 2003 at 1850h.
·
Training
Coordinator: 4 scouts attended the Mary Queen Halloween Carnival. Vertus
training is required by all adults active with the troop. Training should be
completed by the year end for adults already active in the troop. New adults should arrange for training to be completed
in the first 6 months of membership.
The December Northern Star District Roundtable will be on Wed. Dec. 03 at 7:00 PM (time changed) at UMC Pearland. Starting in January, the District Officers will meet the 1st Wed. of each month and the District. Roundtable will be moved to 7:00 PM on the 2nd Wed. of each month. They are looking for some other site to hold Roundtables as UMC Pearland is getting too small and scheduling is getting to be a problem there. So they may move the site sometime early next year.
