MEETING MINUTES
Friendswood Library
November 29, 2006
Welcome and Introduction: Carla called the meeting to order at 7:03 pm. Those
present: Carla, Mark, Gregg, Dorothea, Kathleen, John, Henry, Karen, Denise,
Randy, and David F.
Previous Minutes: Dorothea presented the previous meeting minutes noting a
change in the date of Halloween in the Park from 11/30 to 10/30. No other
changes noted. Kathleen motioned the minutes be approved as amended, Mark
seconded the motion. Committee approved the minutes.
Treasury Report: Denise reported $6312.97 in the Troop account. Kathleen noted
the Scout account total as $1009.34.
Denise asked if the Troop was reimbursing Mr. Beck for driving to Fall Camp.
Committee stated that was the established policy. Denise verified the IRS
reimbursement rate as .445 and the one-way distance to Camp K as 53 miles. She
also asked if the Troop was reimbursing the ASM that went to Fall Camp as per
Troop policy. It was noted that the Troop pays for two ASM and SM. Only two ASM
went to Fall Camp. Denise will present them with the reimbursement of $75.
Denise also noted one of the axes id not have a cover. Committee recommended
purchase of the cover with approval from the Equipment Chair.
SPL Report: no report
Equipment: Gregg stated he would like to build a rolling lockable cart to hold
the Troop's tents in the garage space at Mary Queen. Discussion ensued as to
how much space the Troop had in the garage, what else needed to be stored and
how to store it. Father Skip has requested plans of what the Troop plans to do
in the space so that he can approve them. Committee gave permission for Gregg
to build the rolling cart. Denise made a motion for $200 to be used for the
purchase of materials needed to build the cart and Kathleen seconded the
motion. Committee approved.
Mark requested a key to access the garage area for installation of the garage
door opener sometime between Christmas and New Year. Randy stated to ask
Charlene for the key. Discussion ensued as to what date to install the garage
opener and how to reach where it needed to be. Gregg offered to provide
scaffolding as long as he was told in advance of the date it was needed.
Activities: Henry announced the White Elephant is scheduled for the December 11
meeting. A maximum of $10 was set for the gift. Can regift. Refreshments will
be provided per Patrols. Henry will send out an email.
Kathleen stated she has no Scouts signed up for Winter Camp.
Henry stated he is planning a PLC for December 9. Denise reminded him of the
parade scheduled for that day and that groups will start lining up at 4 pm.
Kathleen discussed Summer Camp at El Rancho CIMA. She noted 16 Scouts and 3
adults are signed up for Pack & Paddle. She was unable to book Cockrell
River Camp but is on a waiting list. She has base camp at this time as
Horseshoe Bend with 3 Scouts and 1-2 adults signed up so far.
Kathleen asked about camping/activities for Jan-May. Henry said the PLC would
provide those activities. Carla asked about Enchanted Rock that is on the
calendar for January. Kathleen stated Henry decided not to go- too cold, too
far. She has offered the reservations to other groups but no one has accepted
them at this time.
Court of Honor should be scheduled in January. Friends of Scouting to be
invited to do their presentation.
February is Scout Sunday. Debate arose as to when to have Scout Sunday, where
to camp and what mass to participate. Committee decided on February 10 at the
5:30 mass.
Discussion of fishing in March occurred. Karen suggested a place where the
Scouts could camp which also had a long lit pier- she could not remember its
exact name.
April is Camporee.
May- planning canoe trip.
Fundraising: John presented the BBQ brisket sales. He stated the K of C would
be cooking January 26-28. They would need help rubbing the spices on the
brisket. Pick up will be on that Saturday. They will need the number of briskets
to cook by January 19. Denise stated she still had the flyer and ticket Henry
made for last years brisket sales. She could change the date and use them for
this year's sales. She also had the Scouts sale tickets from last year and
could make a list of those that purchased last year so that the Scout could
re-solicit those customers. The briskets will cost $35 with the money going to
the accounts of the Scouts who sell the briskets.
Fish Fry starts on February 23. Scouts day to help on March 2.
First Aid Kits- Mark stated Bill wants to schedule a day in February for
selling kits. Committee stated will have to wait until PLC plans activities
before scheduling a sale date.
Other: John noted the plaque is up at the K of C. They would like to have a
commemorative ceremony.
Roundtable: Winterfest scheduled for January 13. Scouts can camp at the site on
Friday. Also able to set up a booth to sell items.
Trainer development conference on December 2
Wood Badge in October 2007- asking for registration.
OA Fellowship is on December 1, 2, & 3.
District nomination for awards due by December 3.
Quality Unit award- form passed out to Committee members. Discussion ensued on
whether to participate. The form was given to Henry to fill out for submission.
Adjournment: The next Committee meeting was scheduled for December 13 at
the Tibbits' home. The meeting adjourned at 8:10 pm.
