COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES
Mary Queen Church Mini-Hall

November 19th, 2009

 

Welcome and Introduction:  Carla called the meeting to order at 7:05m.   Those present include Carla, Mark T, Mark M, Rudy, Margaret, Chris, Samuel, Karen, Denise, Aris, David.

 

Previous Minutes:  There were no changes to the minutes and they were approved by the Committee.

 

Treasury Report:  Report given by Denise.  The total in the account is $9,252.48.  The amount in the Scout accounts was unknown at the time of the meeting.  Denise reported that the amount collected from the Troop for gas money for trips was not covering the amount spent.  The Committee needs to consider increasing the amount collected.  The Treasurer’s report was approved.

 

The SPL, David, reported that the Troop was working of the Pioneering Merit Badge and the Physical Fitness Merit Badge during the normal Monday meetings. The Troop also prepared for Fall Camp which starts on Nov 20th.  The Troop had a Skate Night to work on the Skating Merit Badge.  The Troop met at the church and cleaned out the trailer and ate hamburgers before skating.  Things are working well in the Troop. 

 

Calendar:

November 2009:

          20th-24th The Troop is going to Fall Camp at Camp Karankawa.  Thirteen boys and five adults will be attending.  T-shirts will be on sale before the troop leaves.

          23rd There will be no meeting this Monday due to Fall Camp.  The next meeting will be on the 30th.

          28th. The Troop will be Scouting for Food.  The food pantry is very low.

December 2009:

          5th:  Popcorn pick up this Saturday in the afternoon

          7th: Troop meeting

          14th Christmas Party, Troop Registration: All parents must attend.  Pop corn money due.   This will be the last meeting of the year.

           29th Jason Yarberry Eagle Court of Honor

Mention was made of the Troop having a booth at Moody Gardens but there were few details known. 

 

January 2010:

          4th Troop meeting

          9th Working on Aviation Merit Badge.  Troop will be going to an airfield and working with model planes.

          11th Troop meeting

          16th or 23rd These are the dates the troop is considering for the Lexington campout.  A decision will be made during the next Committee meeting.

          18th There will not be a Troop meeting this Monday due to Martin Luther King’s birthday.

          25th Troop Meeting

          30th Pinewood Derby

 

February 2010:

          The Troop will be doing a pine needle cleanup and campout at the Knights of Columbus Hall in February.  Date TBA

          1st Troop meeting

          7th Scout Sunday – this is the 100th Anniversary of Scouting.  Mark M will try and determine if there will be a March on this date.

          8th Court of Honor

          15th Troop Meeting

          22nd Troop Meeting

          27th Blue and Gold Banquet.   The Troop helps the Pack with this event.  The Troop is not expecting a large number of Webelos to cross over this year.

 

Past February:

          Rudy is going to coordinate another Flag Retirement Ceremony on March 15th, President’s Day.  The last retirement was well received and very moving to all who attended. The troop will be going to Goliad State Park on the March 26th.   The troop is still trying to decide on the camping trip in April.  The canoe trip will be on May 14-16th.

 

Adult Leaders:

          New adult leaders are Margaret Isaac for Advancement Chair and   Rudy Isaac for Training Coordinator.  Outstanding positions are Committee Chair, Round table backup, and OA representative.  Several candidates were mentioned and several members of the committee will follow up. 

 

Mark T announced that the area near the church rectory were several current Eagle projects are located will be cleared by a rental machine very soon which will allow these projects to move forward.

 

Mark M announced as a follow up to the last meeting that the tents were inspected and two were thrown away.  Two others had minor damage and were tagged “Leader only” since the adult leaders are not as hard on the equipment as the boys.  The troop has plenty of tents and new ones are not needed at this time.

 

The next committee meeting is scheduled for December 15th at a location to be announced.

 

 

Action items:

1.     Should we collect more gas money to help reimburse the drivers to scouting events?

2.     The committee needs more information about the booth at Moody Gardens that was mentioned.

3.     Need to decide on the April campout date and location

4.     Need to finalize the date for the Lexington campout in January.

5.     Will there be a March on Scout Sunday?
