Troop 452, thanks to Dr. Kjell Lindgren, we have a reservation for a 12-day trek at Philmont in the summer of 2021! Up to 8 of our scouts and 4 adults will have the opportunity to participate in this flagship Scouting experience.
As the traditional backpacking trek at Philmont, 12-day treks give Scouts the opportunity to hike for 10 days in the backcountry, with an arrival/departure day in Base Camp on each end of the journey. Crews will be welcomed and accompanied by a Philmont Ranger for their first 3 days and will participate in program activities throughout their trek. 12-day crews cover 50-120 miles over the course of their trek, and also complete the 3 hours of conservation work necessary to earn the Philmont Arrowhead Patch.
Dates: 8 - 20 July, 2021
Requirements:
•Age - 14 or 13 and have completed 8th grade
•Health - This is a rigorous activity at a high elevation. Please see the health/medical requirements.
Cost: $1,065 per participant
Payment schedule:
•$100 due by next Monday, 1/27
•$482.50 due by 10/1/2020
•$482.50 due by 3/1/2021
If a Scout wishes to compete for a spot, they must bring a check made out to "Troop 452" for $100 to the 1/27/20 Troop meeting next Monday. Submission of this fee does not guarantee a spot on the crew.
This will be an incredibly rewarding experience. But as you can imagine, a 12-day back-country trek will also be rigorous and challenging on many levels. Scouts will be selected based on their demonstration of leadership, teamwork, and emotional maturity. If a scout is not selected, they will be put on a alternate/waiting list and their check will be returned to them.
